The price is the price
Why nothing gets added to your total at the last step.
The price you see in the catalogue is the price you pay. Not that price plus a processing fee, plus a service charge, plus something called a "convenience fee" that turns up on the final screen. The number you see is the number that leaves your account.
There is no fee. There is no fee field.
We do not charge a processing fee, a service fee or a payment fee. This is not a discount or a promotion that quietly ends. Our checkout has no line for a fee, our payment system has nowhere to put one, and an order cannot record one. We did not set the fee to zero — we took it out.
Somebody still pays the card networks. It's us.
Every card payment costs the business receiving it. Visa, Mastercard and our payment provider take a percentage of the transaction plus a small fixed amount, and the rate depends on where your card was issued — which is something you have no control over and shouldn't be charged for.
Plenty of businesses pass that straight to the customer. We don't. We treat it as a cost of selling, the same as any other, and we price the cards accordingly.
| Where your card was issued | What the payment costs us | What it costs you |
|---|---|---|
| United Kingdom | 1.5% + 20p | Nothing |
| Europe | 2.5% + 20p | Nothing |
| Anywhere else | 3.25% + 20p | Nothing |
Standard published rates for a UK business. An international card costs us more than twice what a UK one does, and you will never see the difference.
Why a fee at the last step is worse than a higher price
A charge that appears after you have chosen, entered your details and committed to buying is not really a price — it is a price you find out about once leaving feels like a waste of effort. It also makes comparing two sellers impossible, because the number you compared was never the number you were going to pay.
We would rather show you one honest figure and let you compare it with anybody you like.
It's in the contract, not just on this page
Marketing pages are easy to write. Section 7 of our Terms & Conditions commits us to it: we do not charge a processing fee, a service fee or any other charge on top of the price shown, and we will not add anything that was not on the checkout page before you confirmed payment. That is a term of your purchase, and you can hold us to it.
